Prof. Dr. Jürgen Popp, has been appointed honorary professor at the Wuhan Textile University in China (WTU). The award recognizes his outstanding contributions in the field of optical health technologies. Jürgen Popp is scientific director of the Leibniz Institute of Photonic Technology (Leibniz IPHT) in Jena and holds the Chair of Physical Chemistry at the Friedrich Schiller University. He is a leading expert in biophotonics, an interdisciplinary field that uses light technologies to study biological systems. The collaboration with WTU is intended to strengthen Leibniz IPHT’s research in the field of biophotonics, particularly optical health technologies.
“The laser technology significantly developed by Prof. Jürgen Popp is characterized by high frequency, temporal and spatial resolution and can be used primarily in biomedical diagnostics and treatment as well as environmental and food research,” emphasized WTU Vice President Feng Jun in his laudatory speech. “We look forward to working together to achieve breakthroughs in the fields of biomedicine and health, and to provide technological support for the health of people in both countries.”
In accepting the award, Jürgen Popp emphasized the importance of international cooperation for scientific progress. “The honorary professorship is not only a great personal honor, but also a recognition of the commitment of our interdisciplinary research team here in Jena. It acknowledges our responsible, transnational cooperation.”
“International cooperation is crucial for achieving significant scientific progress,” Popp continued. “Our exchange offers the opportunity to jointly develop innovative solutions for global challenges, especially in the field of healthcare. We attach great importance to developing our relationships on the basis of values and interests, always with a focus on transparent and sustainable scientific practice”.
